Tom Hanks fans won’t have to wait long after his blockbuster “Greyhound” premiered on Apple TV + earlier this year. The beloved actor’s next film is “News of the World,” a second meeting with Captain Phillips director Paul Greengrass that Universal Pictures has dated from its Christmas Day film screening.
“News of the World” stars Tom Hanks as a widower in the Old West who “travels the Texas desert to do a solo show on true stories.” Her goal, besides collecting coins in her cup, is to bring people together and broaden their perspective on the world. A widower embarks on a perilous journey after discovering a young girl (Helena Zingle), the sole survivor of a cart crash in an unknown location.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Greengrass called Hanks’ character, Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, “the thread that binds one community to another.” Set in the Old West, Greengrass finds Kidd’s story and his relationship with the young girl a symbol of contemporary American society.
