Ewan McGregor confirmed during the Graham Norton Show on Friday that the Disney + series about Obi-Wan Kenobi will begin filming in March 2021 after being delayed by the pandemic.
“This is Obi-Wan Kenobi’s story,” MacGregor told Norton. “It’s not all about me. But that will definitely be too much of me, which is a good thing! We’ll start filming it in March of next year. “
MacGregor said he would be guided by Sir Alec Guinness’ portrayal of Obi Wan in the original 1977 Star Wars film. MacGregor said he would consider how Guinness played the younger version.
“I never got to meet (Guinness), but I love him through his work,” McGregor said. Adding that he watched a lot of old Guinness movies to prepare.
Obi-Wan Kenobi was announced in 2019. It will be a six-episode, one-season show set eight years after Revenge of the Sith and 11 years before A New Hope. This is the time when the importance of the Jedi has been greatly diminished.
